Barcelona is a vast and diverse city, built up of a variety of different barrios (neighbourhoods), each with its own distinct bubble of life and hub of activity. Designed in the 19th century by Catalan urban planner and architect Ildefons Cerdà, L’Eixample, Catalan for “extension”, is one of the biggest neighbourhoods in the city, stretching from Plaça de Catalunya to Gràcia in the North and Poblenou and Montjuïc on either side. Constructed on a grid-like system the area is often compared to New York with the buildings forming blocks, making it difficult to get lost.
COOKONA is based in Izquierda de l'Eixample, where Rosselló crosses with Aribau. This district is characterised by wide leafy boulevards and buildings with art nouveau facades, each beautifully decorated with its own distinct palette of colours and designs. The area consists primarily of upper-class residential and shopping areas. Additionally, many of the city’s Modernista masterpieces designed by the likes of Josep Puig i Cadalfach, Lluís Domènech i Montaner and the infamous Antoni Gaudí, such as Casa Milà and Casa Batlló, two of Gaudí’s showpieces, are located within this locale. This local neighbourhood, with a vibrant nightlife and thriving cafe culture, is ideal also for lazy afternoon strolls and soaking in the beautiful architecture to pass the time.
